Socceroos trying to steal Ricki Herbert?
Phar Lap, Crowded House, Pavlova and Robbie Deans - now the Aussies may try to steal All Whites coach Ricki Herbert.
The Australians are trying to steal yet another kiwi success.
Former Socceroos coach Rale Rasic wants Football Federation Australia to wave its cheque book under the nose of All Whites coach Ricki Herbert. He says Herbert is the ideal man for the job after the heroics of the New Zealand team at the World Cup in South Africa.
Cameroon coach Paul Le Guen is reportedly the favourite for the role, but Rasic insists there is no-one who can serve Australia better than Herbert. He says Herbert knows how to lead his professional players.
The Socceroos current coach Pim Verbeek is set to step down after the World Cup.

The Northland utility could be in the mix to play Wales in Hamilton on Saturday.
He has been called in to cover injuries to fullback Israel Dagg (concussion) and centre Conrad Smith (eye) who were injured in the All Blacks 42-9 win in the opening test win over Wales in Dunedin last weekend.
Neither will be available this weekend.
''Israel is making good progress from his concussion but still has mild symptoms so won’t be available this weekend while Conrad was reviewed by a specialist at Waikato Hospital (Monday) and, while his eye is settling well, he too won’t be available to play this weekend,'' All Blacks Doctor Deb Robinson said.
It’s likely the All Blacks will use Richard Kahui at centre and Cory Jane at fullback to cover the gaps in the starting XV.
Ranger looms as a candidate for the bench.
The 23–year–old Ranger trained with the All Blacks in the leadup to their opening test against Ireland.
He was then released to play for the New Zealand Barbarians against New Zealand Maori earlier this month.
The All Blacks team will be named later today.

The New Zealand Maori rugby team beat Ireland in a thriller at Rotorua 31-28 during their 100th centenary year.
The Maoris had rushed out to an early lead with two tries and penalty, but Ireland come back and actually hit the lead with seven consecutive penalties. Maoris scored three tries to one. Once they regained the lead they kept the pressure on the Irish and gutsed it out as they say in the game.It was a great tight second half.
Another great scalp for the NZ Maori team who beat the British and Irish Lions back in 2005. They were well lead by Waikato and Chiefs loose forward, Liam Messam.
Coach Jamie Joseph is a former NZ Maori rep, as was his father the late Jim Joseph. Jamie is also a former Otago rep and former All black back in the 1990's.
A great victory in the 100th year of Maori rugby

Kiwis flock to watch All Whites thrillr draw with Slovakia The All Whites applaud the crowd after their 1-1 Soccer World Cup draw with Slovakia.
Almost three-quarters of a million New Zealanders watched the All Whites last night, with some bars around the country reporting their biggest night in recent memory.
One pub in Auckland's Viaduct, Fox's Ale House, had to turn away more than 500 people before kick off, said general manager Justine Grace.
"The numbers we were turning away was just insane. I couldn't believe it when I saw it.
"It was definitely the biggest night we've seen for a long time."
Nobody left before the game ended, and the crowd exploded at Winston Reid's last-minute equaliser, Ms Grace said.
"That was just crazy. The whole pub just exploded.
"Everyone went absolutely mental - they were jumping and cheering and chanting. For about 10 minutes you couldn't hear anything."
Even on a Bledisloe Cup All Blacks test match the bar rarely turned away more than 200, Ms Grace said.
In Christchurch, a barman at Holy Grail Sports Bar said it had up to 1000 people packing the b
"It was chocker, mate. It really went off. The whole place erupted. We've never seen anything like it," he said.
Extra staff were called in and the momentum from the All Whites' match carried on to good crowds at other World Cup matches, he said.
"It was just as big if not bigger than an All Blacks test. It's the talk of the town."
Wellington's Four Kings bar said its two floors had filled with about 400 people, while Public, just down the street on Courtney Place, also said it had had a "fantastic", "crazy" and "huge" night.
In living rooms, meanwhile, Television New Zealand said 593,800 people watched the game on TV One and 150,500 watched on Sky TV - a total of 744,300.
That means more than one in six New Zealanders stayed up on a Tuesday night for the broadcast, from 11.30pm till 1.20am.
The All Whites' 1-1 draw with Slovakia gives New Zealand their first World Cup point, and puts them level with other teams in their group.
Their next game is Sunday, against Italy.
